Shin stood staring out into the village, "COME ON BACK!!!" cried a group of warriors. They were all scarred and knotted with muscle. Shin was bruised and his left eye was swollen shut and blood ran from his head down his face. He gripped his right arm tightly with his left and there were large bruises on it as well, "Come on, take your mark with dignity!!!" they shouted as they began climbing the hill rapidly. Shin growled with frustration and darted off in the other direction. He headed into the forest dodging trees and their branches as he fled for his life. He had to get away. He had to get far away.
His village had killed her. A small human girl, just for being human. She had been separated from her parents...she was lost and scared. Tears streamed from Shin's eyes as he moved through the area. They'd broken her like a bag of glass no matter how hard he'd tried to stop them. Verbally, he pleaded over and over and shouted like a madman for them to spare her. Then he fought. Shin remembered the girl's final screams and it was too much. He collided with a tree and slumped down with a heavy vomit. Shin stood slowly and stumbled his way into an sprint again. He had to get far away. His vision blurred as his previous beatings got to him further. He was far away from his assailants by now and dragged on and on until he collapsed ouside a village. A human village...

“Miss Yumi! Miss Yumi!” Children called as they ran up to the young woman. She smiled at them with patience as she grabbed an apple from the fruit stand and put it in her basket. She handed the farmer his money before she turned to the children. She knelt down so she could be at their level and look them in the eyes- something she did with everyone. “What is it?” She asked softy. “We were playing in the woods when-” One boy began. Another stepped in front of the other and finished. “You wouldn’t believe what we found!” “Really? What is it?” Yumi asked sweetly. An even younger boy budded in. “I’ll give you a hint- blue hair.” He said with a lisp- two front teeth were still growing in. Yumi’s eyes widened. “Oh no.” She said, her voice still hardly reaching above a whisper. She looked at the youngest. “Now tell me, please… did you tell anyone else about this?” She asked. The boys looked at one another as if to check with each other. “Well… no.” Yumi sighed out of relief. Though her village was full of kind people, she knew what fear to bring them to do. “Good. I’ll tell you what… I’ll buy each of you an apple if you promise to show me where the Apoth is and promise not to tell anyone else about this.” “Okay!” They all agreed. She knew she could trust them. She was one of the only people she knew who could trust in every word the villagers told her. No one could lie to her after speaking with her. They said she was just too kind for that. “Good. Now come on then…” She said as he quickly grabbed three apples, and paid for them. “Show me where this person is.” The boys nodded, grabbed her hand and pulled her along after them.

Yumi followed the kids past the fields and into a clearing that was hidden a bit by tree’s. The kids stopped quickly and pointed to a pile of clothes. Yumi looked again and realized it wasn’t a pile of clothes. It some a guy… an Apoth. He had bruises and cuts everywhere, clearly he’d had to fight for his life at some point. She looked back at the children. “Go home and don’t forget our little promise.” She said sternly yet without too much force. The boys nodded their heads and ran back. Yumi ran to the Apoths side. He had vomit stained on the front part of his shirt. “You poor thing…” She whispered as she took off her shoulder wrap and covered him with it. The Apoth stirred slightly. His eyes opened just barely to see her. She smiled down at him as she did with everyone. “Hello. My name is Yumi. Don’t worry. Everything will be alright. I’ll find a way to get you to my house to treat your wounds.” He mumbled something under his breath. “Can you get up?” She asked. She was surprised when he’d actually begun to try. He was shaky but he managed to sit up. “Are you sure you can move?” She asked in concern. He looked over at her, his eyes still closed mostly and nodded. Yumi steadied him as he rose. “Alright… my homes at the edge of the town. There… that one over there.” She said pointing to a house that seemed miles away. He could just barely spot it… and so could she. It was a bit frightening seeing someone so injured push themselves so hard. The Apoth staggered as he walked and often fell to his knee’s but he didn’t give up until they reached the edge of her property. It was there where he collapsed from exhaustion. Yumi had to drag him to her doorstep- which took a good hour or two. She moved as fast as she could and made sure no one was coming their way. She didn’t stop worrying until the Apoth was lying on her couch and her door was locked behind her wit hall the curtains drawn. Even then she quickly went to work gathering all the medicines she had in the house. “What should I use?” She wondered out loud. “I’ve never treated an Apoth before… just the little ones who hurt themselves playing in the fields and woods.”

Shin looked straight at the ceiling with half opened eyes. He could hear her moving around quickly. He wasn't even sure why he'd trusted her, "Who are you shankijo?" he asked roughly. Her moving stopped. Her face came into his tunneled view again, "You can speak? Good," she said smiling, "that's definately a good sign. What is...shankijo?" "Shan...beautiful...kijo...is female devil..." Shin replied. His eyes shifted lazily over to meet hers, "I see...do you have any allergies I should know of?" Yumi asked uncapping a bottle of a strong smelling liquid. Her hand went above Shin's vision and he felt the cold of the medicine across his forehead. He winced as there was a sting. Yumi'd found the cut, "Carrots..." Shin replied. Yumi paused for a moment, "Carrots?" she smiled, "Well I suppose I shouldn't use that carrot salve I've prepared for instances like this. Oh, and God forbid I give you that carrot pill that always comes in handy! Not to mention all the carrot medication you'll need to heal those wounds!" she teased. Shin didn't get it, "What? Then what will you do?" he asked worridly. Normally he'd just leave, but he couldn't move, "Silly...I meant, did you have any medicinal allergies," "Didn't know they existed," Shin replied. He turned his head to the side with his foggy vision following. Yumi wiped more of the blood off of his head and the stinging grew into a numbing sensation, "Does that sting? I'm sorry...just bear with it for a while. Here...drink this. It'll help you sleep," Yumi said. Shin looked up again and opened his mouth. Yumi helped him sit up straighter on the couch as he downed the bitter seditive.

Yumi felt real bad having to clean his wounds. She didn’t like to see anyone in pain but she knew it’d be better to clean them than for the wound to get infected. After she gave him the sedative- which he noted could have tasted better, Yumi was busy making sure she cleaned all the wounds on his body. “Umm…” She whispered, blushing lightly. “Are there any other area’s that hurt?” She asked after she cleaned all the visible ones. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow. “No. Why?” “Nothing.” She said and turned around. “What would you like for diner?” She asked. “I don’t really care. Do what you want. So long as it doesn’t taste as bad as the medicine that is.” Yumi reddened. “Well actually, I’m not the best cook but it doesn’t taste horrible. How about a nice soup or stew?” “Sure.” He said and rolled over on the couch dozing off. Yumi went to the cabinets and rummaged through them. She noticed she was out of a few things. She grabbed her basket and went to the front door. “I’ll be back. I’ve got to get a few more things from the market. If you could lock the door and not answer it unless its me… that would be the safest route.” She called to him. He was already asleep- light snoring came from him. Yumi giggled before shutting the door behind her. She was a little quicker in her steps but she did her best not to looked too rushed as she got into town. She didn’t want anyone getting suspicious of her. She quickly found the ingredients she was looking for before she turned to head back home.

Shin stared at the back of his eyelids for a while until the lady, Yumi was out of earshot. He sat up slowly and looked around. His tongue licked the inside of his cheeks. The swelling has gone down a little. His ribs still ached horribly. Shin was grateful to the woman for helping him but he knew the situation. The people in this place would be after him, and they'd punish her for taking care of him. Still, there was a lingering pain in Shin's legs. He would try to stand but he didn't want to fall and risk breaking something. He needed to focus for a bit. He could numb out his pain by draining his sense of feeling and touch, though that would make him entirely dependant on his internal balance. Though, there was something bothering him. It just didn't feel...safe. Not for him, and not for Yumi. "But mommy he was hurt so I told miss Yumi!" a boy whined at his mom, "Travis that's no excuse! You did the right thing by telling me about this. Those Appies are dangerous!!!" a very ecstatic woman cried marching down the street with her son by the hand. He wept quietly. The mother walked up swiftly behind Yumi with what looked like a murder accusation in her eyes. She turned Ymi around and smacked her, "What the hell do you think you're doing? Where is it!?" the mother shouted. Yumi had dropped her basket, "What are you talking about?" Yumi asked holding her cheek. The fear had already taken ahold of her. She looked down at Travis, one of the children from earlier. He couldn't meet her gaze. The mother grabed Yumi's face and made her face her, "LOOK AT ME!!! Where's the damn Appy!! " the woman shouted. The entire street full of people looked at her, "Miss Yumi...not you..." "No way not Yumi!," "She wouldn't do that!" No, couldn't be!" cries like these echoed through the town, "Travis, where did you find the Hell Kid?" the mother asked. Travis was silent. The mother jerked his arm. Tears streamed down his freckled face, "I said where'd you find it!" "I'm not telling you any more!!!!" Travis shouted jerking away from his mother's grip and running away through the crowd. Yumi took a few steps back and picked up her basket. Shin had managed to stand. He spat the sedative into the sink and drank some water from the tap. The feeling in his stomach wouldn't let him rest. That's when he peeked out the window. It was strangly empty. It was what he HEARD that made him bolt from the his shelter.

As He strummed his sleek black musical device the sound waves vibrated in his fingertips, thats what he lives for. playing the continuous G chord to create a magical melody he switched up his fingers swiftly to the A Chord. All the screaming around him he was home. A rondom guy in front of the stage reached out and grabbed Craven's foot and yanked, his foot slipped out from under him and he fell with a thud, flat on his back. //I cant let this stop my show....I have to do something....wait..........acdc......thats it!\\ He kept playing turned on his side and flailed his legs as he started spinning around on the floor, the crowd let out a loud roar of excitement. He jumped up and grabbed his mic and in his English accent he yelled to the crowd. "Thank you guys for coming, ROCK ON!" The crowd burst into even louder cheers as The Rebellion (the bands name) left the stage. *WHAM* "Wake the f*ck up fuckin Lazy ass!" A man stood around 6'3'' He had a very familiar face his eyes were a yellow color, his hair was black just about to his shoulders. "Red calm the f*ck down, get your drumset set up." //of course it was only a dream, if only we could get that big, but with this bullshit apoth vs. Human monotony going about we wont ever go anywhere...\\\ "rudy is your bass tuned? we're fixing to practice!" Rudy glanced over at Craven with his green eyes and his high cheek bone, hair red and yellow spiking back lookin very much like a fire. He stood around 5'4'' short lil' tyke. He started doddling his bass back and forth as to show he was already on it. "Jeeze Auto what happened to you last night? one minute you were happy having a fun time drinkin' some liquor and I look back over, YOU fell off a DAMN BUILDING! I was so scared luckily that pole....and...tree..and..ground were there to catch you haha." Rudy noticed Auto wasnt really laughing at that and abrubtly got back to tuning his bass. "Now....are we all ready?" He looked at Red and Rudy, they noded. "LETS FUCKIN ROCK!"

Yumi backed away from the gathering crowd of faces that she’d known nearly her whole life. “I can explain everyone…” She said and held up her hands, trying to calm them down. “Yumi… you wouldn’t?” “What have you done?” “It couldn’t be…” Everyone murmured. The woman who’d smacked her across the face glared at her. “She has! She must be punished for her foolishness! How could she bring the scum into our village?” Everyone began looking at one another as if to fuel a growing fear. “Please… no.” She begged. “He’s harmless. I promise you there is no danger. Someone harmed him and he was in need of help- I treated him as I would any of you. Neither he nor I have done anything wrong.” Though her voice remained quiet, she was heard by all. For an instant she thought they would understand. She sighed out of relief and smiled but to her horror she felt rough hands grab the back of her hair. She cried out. “So, he’s hurt is he? Good… then we’ll be able to kill him that much easier. Where’s he at? Your home, Miss. Yumi?” She looked up at him with fear in her eyes. It was the baker… he’d been so kind to her and never before had he raised a hand to anyone. Yumi couldn’t understand why they were acting this way. He began to drag her to her house. The crowd of people followed. All began to gather weapons or farming tools. Someone grabbed a light and some gas. Everyone made their way to Yumi’s home and gathered on the front lawn. “Let’s burn the place down with the Appy in it!” They yelled as they approached the house. Everyone yelled out in agreement “No!” No one had ever heard Yumi raise her voice. She pulled away from the bakers grip and stepped in front of them. Tears streamed down her face. “Do not harm him! He has done nothing wrong!” “Lock her in the garage!” Someone yelled. Within seconds she felt men pick her up and rush her into her garage. Someone found rope and tied her to a pipe. They backed away. The one who’d brought the gasoline poured some around the garage door and everyone backed out, shutting her inside. Yumi pulled at the ropes. She needed to save the Apoth. He’d be asleep from the sedative by now. She heard glass break and saw smoke quickly rise from under the door. Within minutes the room was filled in smoke. Yumi began to cough as her lungs burned. “Help! Someone! Help us!” She begged as she struggled against her bonds.

Shin emerged from the bushes near the house as he heard the flames dissolve the wood of the house, "No...this is what I wanted to prevent..." he said. His hair glowed a bit now as he made his ragged way to the garage that was ablaze. He stood behind it focusing carefully before sending his foot through the back wall. Yumi turned to see him with surprise in her eyes, "You! But how?" she shouted. Shin ran over to her and picked her up hurrying out of the burning building, "Are you hurt?" Shin asked. Yumi just looked at him sadly, "I see...come, let's get out of here..." "To where? I can't leave! This is my home!" Yumi shouted realizing all the while that staying was impossible. Shin charged out of the area and then removed Yumi's ropes once they got away from the smoke. Shin leaned against the same tree as last time, "Miss Yumi, I'm sorry I got you into this..." "No...it...it wasn't your fault..." she said standing over him, "Not acceptable. Miss Yumi...if they come for you...kill me," Shin said, "What?" Yumi asked surprised. Shin placed a small knife in her hand, "Just do it..." he said just as a few villagers came into the area, "Ahhh, we knew you'd come to your senses! Go on, kill it!" the man in front shouted, "Yeah, go on Yumi!" another with a shovel cried, "Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!" children chanted, "Go on Shankijo...I am no one to get in the way of your home..."

Yumi’s hands shook as she gripped the knife. She couldn’t regulate her breathing- her heartbeat was thumping so fast in her chest. She looked at the Apoth and then back at the people she’d known her whole life. She didn’t know what to do. For an instant, she thought of what might happen if she killed the Apoth. The villagers would be happy and forgive her. Within a week everything would be back to normal… for them. Yumi could never kill a living person or animal- no matter what the circumstance. Yumi looked into the Apoths eyes. The bluest she’d ever seen but not cold- by far was he someone who deserved death. She couldn’t bring herself to kill someone who ‘deserved it’ let alone an innocent man. Yumi glanced between him and her people. She couldn’t kill him. But if she refused, they’d kill them both. She knew that now. “Go on.” He encouraged. He was really willing to throw away his life for her to be able to go back home. Yumi smiled lightly and bowed gracefully towards him. “Thank you very much for your offer but I’m afraid that is out of the question.” She said in her usual soft tone. The villagers were all confused, not knowing he’d told her she could kill him. She turned, her red hair shining in the light, and looked at the people she’d known her whole life. She also gave them a smile. “You are all my dear friends… Thank you very much for the good times we’ve shared.” With that she spun back around, the knife raised. For a split instant, things slowed for Shin. He saw her coming towards him- the metal of the knife glinting as it came closer to him. He took a deep breath- expecting it to be his last when the woman quickly flipped the knife into a fold in her skirt and grabbed his arm. “Come on!” She beaconed as she pulled him into the woods. “What are you doing?” He asked as he tried to understand what she’d just done. She didn’t look back but he saw the smile remain on her face. “You mean you don’t know? We’re getting out of here as quickly as possible so we don’t die.” She replied. But even with her being very healthy, she was no runner and within five minutes she began to tire. “They’re good people… but they sometimes jump to conclusions without thinking about it. “She said through labored breathing. Some villagers were still chasing them while others had given up. He shook his head. “I do not understand you, Shankijo.” She laughed. “My name is Yumi- you used it once before. And you are?” She asked- still keeping her eyes fixed forward. “Shin… Shin Yuushi.”

that's when it came back to him. What his father had told him, "You are whom my son?" he'd asked. Shin remembered his father had made him decide his own name. Shin must have sat there searching himself for at least two days, without moving, without hardly breathing. Shin. He was Shin of the Yuushi clan. "Good, do you know what that means?" his father had asked, "Shin, a name of truth, faith, fidelity, sincerity, trust, reality, genuineness. Yuushi, our clan is a clan of brave men, brave warriors, Shin. You be true to yourself and others, and you fight for those truths. Do you understand?"
Shin opened his eyes, "Yes father...I understand," he said sweeping Yumi's legs from under her and dashing off through the trees. He moved like a floodwater crashing through the forest, of course without actually colliding with anything. His hair pulsated with the rhythm of his heartbeat as the shouts grew fainter and fainter in the distance. Shin moved about 73mph right now weaving in and out like a needle and thread through silk. Yumi looked up at him in surprise. She had no idea that Apoths were this...incredible. She was almost...afraid. No, she thought. That fear is what makes humans so ready to destroy them, "Shin...aren't you still hurt?" Yumi asked, "Of course..." he said, "but I won't lay down and die for these people...I cry for their young and they come at me with death in their hearts. No...I cannot fall to them. That's why I wouldn've had you take my life," he said. Yumi shooke her head, "No...don't ever ask me to take life again! I can't do that..." Yumi shouted. She covered her mouth. She hadn't meant to yell. Shin smiled and then laughed somewhat lightheartedly, "I see...you're passionate about that aren't you? I understand..." Then they reached a cliff. They were lucky, the villagers hadn't folowed them that far.

Shin set Yumi down for a moment. There was a single tree clinging to the edge of the cliff. It was sturdy still, though it was without leaves so Shin leaned up against it. He slid his back down the bark and sat down. Yumi looked down at him. “That was too much with your body still needing to heal.” She said in her usual soft voice as she knelt down to inspect him. “I’m fine.” He said and smirked. Until she touched a bruise on his rib. He flinched and grunted. Yumi looked up at him and stared in his eyes. “Take deep breaths until it stops hurting. We don’t want the ribs healing inward towards your lungs. The deep breaths are important if you don’t want to be out of breath in seconds.” She said as she pulled his shirt back down. Shin just stared at her. Eventually it made Yumi feel uncomfortable so she got up and sat on the ground- her feet dangling off the cliff. “You shouldn’t be so close. The ground could give way.” Shin warned with his gaze still on her. Yumi smiled and shook her head. “I’ve come here quite often since I was little. Its sturdy, I promise. The children and their parents come here when the snow falls and go sledding. The ones without families bring hot chocolate, soup, and blankets.” He smiled. “Its like a celebration almost.” Yumi sighed heavily as her smile faded. She looked back at Shin. “Where should we go next?” She asked. He shrugged his shoulders. “A bigger city maybe? Its easier to get lost in the crowd. All I need is a hat and nobody will bother us for a good while…” He paused. “Um… thanks.” He said in an uncertain tone. Yumi’s head turned to the side. “For what?” She asked. Shin hesitated for a moment. “N-never mind. It’s not important.” Yumi laughed. “What?” He asked. “Nothing. Should we stop for the night? Or would you like to keep going? I believe the nearest city is about a day or two’s journey- at least for humans anyway.” She smiled warmly at him. “I believe there’s some sort of musical performance going on there for the next few days.” “Perfect. We’ll be able to get a hat in no time then. Course, I’ll need you to pick it off someone so I can enter without anyone noticing.” Yumi’s eyes widened. “You… you want me to steal?” Shin raised an eyebrow. “Well, if you need to but I was thinking you could get someone to give it to you with that smile of yours.” He said. Yumi turned her head and looked over the cliff at the tree’s. “Oh.” She said, feeling her face redden with the compliment. "I suppose I could try." She said quietly.
