after Auto had yelled those words their door to their apartment was kicked in by a soldier, "Hey what the f*ck do you th..UGHA" a soldier started to sprint over to Red the drummer, Auto swung his guitar base. It connected with the soldiers helmet and made him fall to the ground. seven more rushed in. two held down each of them, but the seventh soldier seemed a bit different. "Captain what are you orders?" One of the soldiers holding down Red asked. "Just hold him still......Open his mouth" the Captain of the group ordered. "The two holding down red wrenched open his mouth the one on the left getting his finger bit in the process yelped and hit him in the stomach. The captain walked over to red with his flashlight shining it in his mouth. He pushed his finger slightly onto his canine teeth. "He's human, let them go." They started to walk out as Auto stood up along with red and Rudy " RED DESERVES A FUCKIN APOLOGY YOU STUPID DICKS!" Rudy screamed at them as they slammed their front door shut. "Dang red that was close.....good thing we dyed your hair black and filed down your teeth!" Auto smiled ruffling his hair.

The two walke down toward the other end of the cliff. A somewhat steep hill was under their feet as Yumi helped Shin down. They didn't have much trouble getting down that side and to the bottom of the rock crevice, "Yumi, have you ever been this far from your home?" Shin asked. Yumi looked around, "Well actually, no. No one comes this far becasue of the fact...that there might be an Apoth village nearby..." she said sounding ashamed, "I see, so you call us Apoths?" Shin asked, "W-wha? I thought that was what it was okay to call you? Would you prefer the full pronounciation of Apotheoan?" Yumi asked blushing and seeming flustered. Shin looked at her again, "No, that's fine. I just thought humans usually referred to us as Fangs, Hell Kids, and Appies. All of which we don't like. Apoth is just fine Miss Yumi," Shin replied, "Oh...good," she said sighing with relief as they came to a small clearing, "Don't go into that..." Shin whispered. Yumi looked over and saw a look of concern in his eyes as he stared into the clearing. Suddenly Shin ducked and pulled Yumi down with him. She soon heard two rough voices approach, "...and that's not even the half of it! That fool-hearted ningai actually attacked him! He attacked his king for killing that little wench!" raved one of the voices, "*Are?! Are you sure? Shin did that? Well, he was always a little strange..." said one of the voices, "Well yeah, isn't he like your cousin or something? That damned fool! How could he not understand that humans are the enemy no matter how small? They kill our young, accuse us of EATING theirs, they burn our villages if they find them, they pursecute all our people! That moron attacked our ruler for disposing of one little...ARGH!!! It makes me mad just thinking about it!" yelled one of the men. Shin cast down his eyes as Yumi looked over at him wondering what had happened, "Well...I don't know what to think of it all...he was always a good kid though y'know? Always had that compassion for stuff. Heck of a fighter for a peace monger though ain't he? Reminds me of...oh I don't know, what's his name? Remember he...oh nevermind. Thing is we gotta find Shin right?" asked the other one, "Yeah, that stupid...*sigh* let's just find him and give him his mark of Exile so we can get this over with." The men grew closer as Yumi and Shin sank lower and further back into the brush. The two men split up and the 'nicer' of the two got closer. Shin clenched his teeth together as he pushed Yumi behind him. She grabbed his hand to stop him from doing so. They both watched as the Apoth stepped to the front end of the bushes only about three yards away. They hoped the ruffage would be enough to keep them hidden, "Hm?" the Apoth said looking intently at them. He couldn't see them yet but he was intriegued by something. He moved a step closer then looked harder. His pupiles dilating and the blue of his eyes lightened. He was switching his abilities. His sight increased dramatically, then he smiled, "Well well, what do we have here?" Shin didn't move, it was hard to tell what the man had seen just yet. Maybe he hadn't spotted them...or...maybe. The man approached as did the moment of truth.
*Are: Japanese phrase. Can mean 'Oh my!' or "WTF!?" depending on the intensity of it's announciation.

“Hehehe- looks like its my lucky day.” He said as he drew even closer. Suddenly he bent down and picked something up in the leaves. “Looks like I'm a few bucks richer.” He laughed as he counted the money. “One bonus of having to walk around here all day.” He chuckled then stopped. Yumi held her breath. Had he spotted them after all? “What are you doing?” The other called back. He looked over. “Uh... nothing.” He said and slipped the money into his pocket as he began walking back to him. Yumi and Shin waited five intense minutes before they dared move again. “That was close...” Yumi sighed. Shin nodded at her- still tense. Yumi smiled at him. “I never thought I'd be glad that someone lost their money.” He looked at her and relaxed ever so slightly. “Yea...” He whispered as he stood up and helped Yumi on her feet. He took a deep breath. “Come on. It might take you a day or so to get to the city you talked about but I can get us there before the sun sets.” He said as he picked her up. Yumi reddened. “But... your injuries-” “You still on that?” He asked. “I told you I was fine.” He smiled before running. “Um...” Yumi began. “What now?” Shin asked. “The city is... that way.” Yumi said as she pointed to the right. Shin looked down at her and looked where her finger was pointing. “Oh... right.” He said and quickly turned toward the correct direction. Yumi smiled again and found herself staring up at him. As soon as she realized it she looked away.
Sure enough by the time the sun began to set the two were very close to the city. They found a safe place in the woods to came the night. “Tomorrow we'll see about getting that hat.” Shin said as he built a small fire. Yumi nodded and sat down. The two seemed to fall into a strange awkward silence. Yumi took to staring at the ground to try and avoid eye contact with Shin. "So, you know how to cook?" He asked as his stomach growled. Yumi looked up at him. "Yes I do. I'll go see if I can find us something. I might be able to make a stew if I find enough roots and berries." She said in her usual gentle tone. Shin raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Or you could go into the city and find some cheap food." He suggested. Yumi reddened- feeling silly. "Oh... yes I do have a little money on me. Alright. if you'd like I could do that." Shin smiled at her. "What?" She asked.

Shin looked away, "Nothing. Let's just go ahead and try to rest here a bit," he said suddenly jerking his head down with a wince as he grasped his left arm, "Strange..." he said through gritten teeth, "It's felt fine until now..." "What's wrong? Does your arm hurt," Yumi asked drawing near to Shin, "No...I'm be okay. I'll just numb it out," he said. Yumi bit her lip, "You shouldn't do that. Pain is your body telling you it's damaged. Shin, if you ride a bike and it breaks do you keep trying to ride it till it works again?" she asked, "What's a bike?" "*sigh* That's not the point, the point is that injury shouldn't be tested. It should be nurtured back to 100%." Shin smiled at her again, "Hm...you're too kind you know. I'm sorry I called you a devil. Humans are...not liked by my people. Of course I don't think that way, but...it's hard to know who doesn't..." he said, "Hm, I see. Well, if I allowed you into my home and nursed you at least partially back to health what side does it seem like I'm on?" "Well, that makes sense. Of course...your kindness...it worries me. You'd still have your great life had it not been for my actions..."

Yumi laughed softly. “I didn't realize it seemed so great.” She said as she took his arm and began inspecting it. She pressed a few spots till he groaned in pain. “Sorry... anyway, yes I did love my life. They were all like family for me since I never really knew mine.” She ignored the look in Shin's eyes. “Still, sometimes you've got to leave the things you hold onto so you can experience something better.” “Do you really believe that?” He asked. Yumi didn't answer. Instead she gathered some random leaves and berries and mashed them up with her hand, sliding it over a certain spot on his arm. “You may not need this but I know for a fact that it helps the little ones when they get hurt. Let me know if how it feels in the morning.” She said before she walked back around the fire to where she'd sat. She sat down and stared at the fire for a moment- thinking. Then she smiled. “You know...” She began as she looked over at Shin. He'd already been looking at her. She reddened but shrugged it off. “It takes a very kind person to worry so much about another who's left all they know behind. Most wouldn't even care.” She said. His eyes widened and his gaze dared to the left as a little pink appeared on his cheeks. Yumi just smiled. “Goodnight Shin.” She said before laying down and rolling over on her side, her back facing the fire. She laid there silently- unable to sleep. She kept thinking about the Apoth a few feet away. “Sweet dreams.” She whispered before closing her eyes.

"AUTO! lets go get some firewood, the oven is running low!" Rudy Yelled into the living room. "awesome.." red said to himself. "I'll go and get the wood in the outskirts of town by the forest, and maybe I can find another deer Rudy, I really enjoyed that Jerky you made from that last one." Auto walked out the door and started off towards the woods. It was getting late as everyone started going to bed. Auto pulled out his beatin' stick and lit the end of it with his lighter. A few minutes of walking later and he got to the edge of the forest. He heard a rustling in the bushes, so he decided to investigate. "come out come out whatever you aaaare." Auto sang into the bush, He redied his handgun and leapt into the bushes only to get sprayed by the stench of a skunk. "Aw f*ck! you smelly bastard, DAMN YOU!" he aimed his gun at the black creature with its white stripe down it's back. He started firing rapidly as the skunk scurried off. Auto threw one of the biggest little girl fits ever made, He flailed his arms out on his sides, and he was stomping around screaming "STINKY PIECE OF TOXIC WASTE, sprayin me with his BLARGIN FRAGGLERAGGIN DAMN BLARGH!" suddenly realizing he was supposed to o get firewood he went off into the woods, torch in his left hand, saber in his right. He saw a glint of red to his left and a bit of smoke coming off of it and two lumps sprawled out on the ground. "what the hell is that..." he said quietly to himself. Then all of the sudden "ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR" a bear had come up on the side of him and slashed at him. luckily for Auto the Bear overswung and bitchslapped him into the little area where the two lumps were lying down. He had fallen on the red ember. "FUCKIN BEAR!?!?!?!"

"Goodnight Miss Yumi..." Shin said still sitting up, "Sweet dreams," he said. There was a gentle warmth still pouring from the flame. Shin looked into the bushes far away. He thought he'd heard somthing. Then there was a roar, a shout, and a loud struggle. Then a man came flying through the wild onto the fire. It went dark, "f*cking BEAR!!!" the man shouted. Shin was already standing, "Identify yourself" he said standing behind the man. The strange guy put his hands up, "Aw hell...you ain't gonna eat me are you?" he asked. Shin faltered for a moment, "What?" he asked, "I just want to know who in the world you are!" Shin said beginning to lose his patience, "Shin, calm yourself. He's not armed," Yumi said standing and moving toward them, "Whoa..." Auto said under his breath noticing Yumi's elegant form, "Are you alright?" she asked, "Well...I don't think I'm on fire..." "Then you're fine...you should run along...we wan't no trouble..." Shin said releasing the man.

The next thing Shin knew Yumi was already bent down by the guy. “Are you sure you're okay?” She asked. The guy laughed. “Yea, no problem. And you are?” He asked as Yumi helped him up. Yumi smiled kindly at him. “Oh I'm sorry.” She held out her hand in greeting. Shin stepped in between the two. “You don't need to know who we are because YOU are on your way out of here.” He said coldly. The guy just cocked his head. “I wasn't askin' for your name. It was the Miss'. I was curious about.” He said and peaked around Shin. “I don't suppose you two are... married?” Shin and Yumi reddened. “NO!” The both yelled in unison. The guy just laughed. “Good- then you're single?” He asked. Yumi smiled nervously but nodded. Shin glared at the guy. “You're okay right? So why don't you get out of here!?!” He yelled. “Relax. I'm not gonna go blabbing or anything but ya know... I got a place not too far away.” He looked at Yumi. “You wanna come back with me there- its just me and the guys.” He said. “We're not going anywhere with you.” Shin said irritably. “I ASKED HER.” He corrected. The two looked like they were about to go at it. Shin went to knock the guy upside the head. Yumi's eyes widened and she quickly ran in front of the stranger, feeling a swift punch to the top of her head. She fell down to her knee's and held her head- trying to hold back the tears forming on the side of her eyes. Both Shin and the stranger gasped. “Yumi!” Shin yelled. “Jeeze- you idiot!” He pulled Yumi into his arms when Shin tried to go to her. “Are you okay? Yumi was it?” She nodded. “What did you go stepping in like that for?” Shin asked. Yumi looked up at him and tried to smile. “I knew you didn't really want to hurt him so... I thought I'd make sure you didn't-” “That was stupid!” He complained. “Don't ever do that again!” He yelled. “I could've hurt you!” “What do you call this lump on her head?” The guy asked. "Come on Miss Yumi! I'm not letting you spend another minute with this nutt!"

Shin quickly shoved the man away from Yumi, "You're trying my patience..." "Hey you hit her!" "And what did YOU do to stop it?" the Auto was quiet, "As I thought. You provoked me and you're just lucky she has a soft heart and a hard head or you'd be out cold," "Geez you Apoths are violent..." Auto scoffed, "Didn't I just tell you you were trying my patience?" Shin asked, "Yeah I get ya I get ya. Chill out, it was an accident...but I'm NOT LETTING YOU HIT HER AGAIN!!!" Auto shouted jumping between Shin and Yumi, "Come on let's go!" he yelled beginning to dash through the trees as he held Yumi's hand. She suddenly stopped him, "Hey, quit now. He's not dangerous!" she yelled. Auto paused and turned around to see Shin standing right behind him, "Oh...shit..." he said. Shin took Yumi's hand and began to walk back to their camp, "Shin...we can't just leave him..." she said. Shin paused, "Have you somewhere to stay stranger?"Shin asked into the woods. Auto had already started back to his friends. Shin had a strange look on his face, "What is it?" Yumi asked, "He...smelled like an Apoth...just a little..." Shin said, "Maybe...he's in the company of one...this could be bad..." "What?" "What if he was being used as a scout for my village?" "Yeah...that wouldn't end well..." Yumi said. The two set off to switch camp.

Yumi and Shin followed Auto for a little while but eventually he turned to face them- a big smile on his face. "Miss Yumi, did you miss me already?" He asked jokingly. Yumi smiled and laughed nervously. "Well... actually, we were wondering if maybe we could stay with you and your company." She asked politely. Auto laughed. "Why sure thing. We've got just enough room for two people. There's a nice cozy bed for you, Miss Yumi." He looked at Shin. "The other spots in the closet though so he might get a little cold but I'm sure he'll be fine." "And where will you be sleeping?" Shin asked. "Why next to Miss Yumi of course. To protect her from any danger- including hot tempered Apoth's." He said. Shin was about to say something when Auto had already grabbed Yumi's hand and was dragging her along. "You know Miss Yumi, me and my guys are in a band. We just figured we'd live in a modest apartment so we wouldn't forget our roots." He laughed as he lead her back to where everyone was waiting. "You are not sleeping next to Yumi!" Shin finally got out. Auto stopped and looked back. "Dude... that was like three minutes ago that I said that. You're a little slow on the intake aren't ya?" "Please don't make fun of Shin. He's really nice." Shin grabbed Yumi's hand and pulled her towards him. "If anyones protecting her its me." "So YOU want to sleep next to her?" "Thats not what I said!" "Both of you, please stop it." yumi asked gently but the guys didn't hear her. "It is so. You wanna sleep with her! You pervert!" "I'm not a pervert and I don't want to sleep with her." "Good! I'm sleeping at her door to make sure." "You are not- I am gonna sleep at her door to make sure!" "STOP IT!" Yumi yelled. The guys shut up. "Would someone please get us there first? She asked. Auto looked at her. Oh yea... right." He said and continued to walk her and Shin to his apartment.

They headed there silently for the most part. Still trekking through the woods, the walk was still a bit slow. Shin made sure to keep a hold on Yumi as they ventured forward. Suddenly he heard a familiar voice in the distance, "Man we've searched this place a million times!" said the Apoth voice in the distance. Shin's eyes widened, "It's them,” he whispered to Yumi. She gasped, "No.how?" she said quietly. Auto turned around, "What?" he asked loudly. The two glared at him and Shin shushed him, "Dude what?" "Hey did you hear something?" the other voice from earlier asked. Shin groaned and picked Yumi up again dashing off straight back toward his original route. Auto ran the other way. He knew he'd be caught if he called out to the two. By the time the two Apoths got to that spot, no one was there.
Shin continued making haste thought the forest holding Yumi as close as possible so he didn't have to worry about trees. His breathing turned ragged. Now the injuries caught up to him. He nearly fell to one knee. Yumi hopped out of his grasp and eased him to the ground, "See, I knew this would happen..." she said seriously. Shin tried to ease away, "I'm fine Miss-" "No, be quiet and lie down," she commanded. Shin looked at her like a confused puppy, "Down," Yumi said. Her voice had elevated slightly. Shin slowly moved to the ground. Yumi approached him slowly and then looked down at him covering him with the small blanket, "There. No more moving for you tonight!" she said sternly. Shin just lie there, "Um...thank you...Miss Yumi?" he said confused. She smiled. An hour later neither of them was asleep. Yumi sighed, "Wow, now I'm too worried to rest,” Yumi sighed. Shin looked up at her as she sat down on her knees. He smiled at her as the moonlight graced her form, “Hmm, how about I give you an Apoth name?” he asked. Yumi giggled and moved closer to him, “An Apoth name? How does that work?” she asked. Shin looked straight up for a second, “Well, experienced Apoth are able to do it. Since Apoth are named according to what their own scent, look, actions, and aura, if you know all the names accordingly you can sometimes tell the name of a fellow Apoth without ever exchanging words. Experienced warriors are said to sometimes be able to know the names of many people they’ve met on the battlefield although all they did was cross blows and not names. We have to memorize the name list for our village in school when we’re young. It’s the same as having to learn human words and the alphabet. If you want I can try and tell you yours,” Shin explained. Yumi smiled warmly making him blush. She was beautiful in this light, “I’d like that very much,” Yumi said sweetly. Shin began to sit up but she stayed him at the ground, “But I can’t do it from here,” he said in protest. Yumi wagged her finger, “I can’t relent now that I’ve finally got you to listen to me! Here,” she said pulling him toward her. She placed his head in her lap, “There!” she smiled. Shin swallowed hard, “W-well Miss Yumi, I have to look directly into your eyes to do this and um…well…” he stammered. Yumi raised an eyebrow as she looked down at him, “Okay, what’s wrong?” she asked. Shin swallowed again, “Um…see…well…I um…I’m more accustomed to…my village is more abundant with…smaller breasts…” he finally finished. Yumi blushed, “Oh…heh, is that all?” she asked in an airy tone trying to hide that she was embarrassed, “Okay, well I guess you can go ahead and sit up,” she said. Shin sat up and they both waited to stop blushing before Shin began. He moved forward a bit and brushed her hair from her face staring into her pale green eyes for a moment. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath inward inhaling her original scent. The true scent that could never wash away or be masked. She smelled like rain, like you would expect a cloud to smell. She was scented like the heavens. Shin exhaled slowly. He moved close to her face sensing her aura. A calm quiet heartbeat of a flames surrounded her. It was soothing. It was peaceful. It was beautiful. Shin reached up and touched the sides of her face. Yumi blushed and closed her eyes as well, feeling Shin’s aura. I was bright and unclouded. It was truth in itself. He held a great energy within. Yumi smiled and opened her eyes looking at him. Shin held a stone face. His breathing was so slow it was untraceable. Her eyes wandered to his lips and she quickly looked away. Shin’s eyes opened, “Mizuki…I think. Yes, I see you as Mizuki,” Shin said with an uncertain look on his face, “Mizuki…” Yumi said slowly listening to the syllables meld together, “Hmm, I like it.” “I’m glad. Some people don’t. Of course, you are human so your name is what your parents have chosen for you. I shall continue to call you Yumi, but if we ever come to be around other Apoth they will likely address you as Mizuki,” he said. Yumi smiled at him, “That’s fine. I don’t mind either one,” she replied. Shin lie back down since Yumi was giving him a look, “That’s nice. Are you still restless?” Shin asked. Yumi paused then nodded again, “Then tell me what’s bothering you, or what’s on your mind. Maybe something about your past, or what your plans were for the future. Whatever it is, tell me.”

Yumi wasn't really sure what to tell him. She stared at him for a moment. “Oh don't worry about me. I'm just your regular worry wart.” She said with a smile. “As far as my past goes... well, there isn't much to tell. I've lived on my own for a long time now. I'm used to taking care of myself and didn't mind when I took up the responsibility of taking care of others too. Some say I get that from my mother.” She giggled then stopped and became silent. “You don't talk about them- your parents I mean.” Shin noted. Yumi sighed. “Yes. I know.” She said before shifting her weight and lookig away for a moment. “Did something happen?” He asked. Yumi didn't look at him as she nodded her head. “I see... what was it?” He asked. Yumi turned her head, a strand of hair falling down her shoulders. She smiled getnly at him but he thought her eyes sparkled a little more. Was she tearing up? “There's a lot of things in life people can't explain. I've always been happy for what I was given and accepted what I couldn't have or keep. My parents were hard workers and loved each other so much. The only thing they said they loved just as much was me. Dad was a doctor. Mom used to tell me a story about a young hero who would travel to Apoth villages that were in need of medical supplies and he'd deliver them in secret. She said the young man built a good relationship with them and was respected as one of the only men they trusted... I knew she was talking about dad. I'd always ask him to tell me about his secret travels but he'd just smile and tell me that- 'Each heart holds a responsibility to spread kindness across the lands. This acts are best left between the giver and receiver so that the shadows of the world don't notice the light becoming brighter.'” Yumi paused. and took a deep breath in and out. “We don't really know what happened to them. I had left that night to spend the night at a friends house. When I came home... mother and father...” She couldn't bring herself to finish. Every time she spoke of it she could see the blood and gashes in their necks. She could see the knife in her fathers heart and the mutilated figure of her mother. Her mother was tied on the bed- her clothes ripped off... and her father had been lying on the floor- the house had been in shambles and blood had covered the walls showing signs of a struggle. “Yumi...” Shin whispered gently. Yumi shook her head and looked at him. She felt the tears on her face. “They said it was an Apoth robbery. They said they raped and killed my mother and waited for father to return from his deliveries. They told me father probably saw mother and was ambushed... there was a fight and he was killed too.” “What?” Shin gasped. “Yumi shook her head. “I told them it wasn't possible. I told them the Apoth loved my father but they said that the Apoth may have been insulted by something father did. I didn't notice back then how they knew about the deliveries. Still... in the end... I don't know who really killed my parents. Either way it won't bring them back.” “How? How can you be so kind? To anyone. You know the village somehow found out. They could have been the ones to kill them!” “Yes... but there's the chance it wasn't them.” “Then why don't you hate Apoth? Why do you act so kindly towards me when I could be related to the murderers of your parents?” Yumi smiled and took his hand. “Hate won't solve anything. The wound will not be healed with bitterness. I will continue my fathers work.” Shin realized. “That's why to tend to peoples wounds so often and openly.” Yumi smiled and nodded. “I'm not trained but my father taught me quite a bit. Any who come to me with an injury or ailment will not be denied help.” Yumi replied softly. “As far as my hopes for the future went... I don't believe I had any. I guess I thought I'd always be alone in that house and tending to peoples injuries.” Yumi pretended to yawn. “Well... goodnight Shin.” She said in a cheerful quietness.

Yumi lay still in the grass for a while before Shin finally spoke again, “Miss Yumi. I hope you never have to hurt like that again. I’ll… I’d like to see to that if possible,” he said. Yumi smiled and blushed but didn’t manage to look back over at him, “Thank you Shin. You’re too kind. I’m only glad I could save your life. You deserve it,” Yumi replied. Shin smiled and patted Yumi’s side, “Thank you Yumi,” he said, “And good night.”
Before long, the sun peeked out above the trees. Yumi’s eyes cracked open so see Shin already standing. He was facing the city, “Miss Yumi, are you ready? There’s a big day ahead…” he said, “Yeah…just give me a moment…” Yumi replied stretching and yawning for a moment. She forced herself to her feet and stumbled for a second from lack of balance. Shin looked steady on is feet. He seemed healed almost. Yumi smiled at him, “Feeling better?” she asked. A smile from Shin returned, “Yes of course. Let’s go…”
(Sorry so short, next will be better promise!)

Yumi took a deep breath as she walked into the city alone. Since Shin couldn't just walk into the city with his distinct features, she had to find him a hat to cover his hair and a pair of sun glasses. She took out her wallet and looked into it. She sighed heavily. “There's no way I can afford to buy them with so little money. Not unless we want to go without dinner and a room...” She moaned before looking around the busy streets. “Okay... so all I've got to do is find someone who'll give me their hat and sun glasses. She took another inhale- this one sharper than the last, before she walked up to the closest person with sun glasses. “Um, excuse me sir...” She began, knowing all too well how red she was. “Yea?” He asked her lazily. “I know this sounds silly but might you be willing to give me your sun glasses. I-” “Sorry lady.” He waved her away and continued on. Yumi sighed. “It's okay. Have a nice day.” She said softly with a bright smile even though the guy had long since stop listening to her. She went to a group of teens. “Um, pardon me... could you let me have your hat?” “Dude- the hottie's talking to you...” One kid nudged his friend- the one with a hat the would easily hide all of Shin's hair. “I know man.” He laughed as he grabbed his skate board and took a few steps up to a blushing Yumi. “So what do you want again?” He asked, all his friends gathering around. Yumi laughed nervously. It was a good thing they weren't any older than fourteen yet. Otherwise she'd be more on edge being surrounded by a bunch of guys. “Well, I was wondering if you might consider giving me your hat.” She asked in the sweetest tone she possessed. “My hat? Why you want my hat?” He asked. “Well...” She knew as soon as she said it was for a friend they'd say no. The only reason he was listening to her was because he thought she was 'hot'. She hated to do it but if it meant Shin could blend in... Yumi took a deep breath. “I just wanted something to remember you by. It's not every day you meet someone so amazing.” She recited an old pick up line one of the guys at the village had used on her. She doubted it would work... it was too- “Yea? Cool. I think you're pretty awesome too. Wanna be my girl?” He asked. Yumi's eyes widened and smiled and bent down more towards his level. “I'm Sorry but I don't live around here. But maybe when you get older you can come find me and we could get to know each other a little more? “Sure thing.” He said excitedly. “You think I can have your hat to remember you by till then?” She said, pointing at the black hat with a character sticking out his tongue. ....
Yumi held onto the hat, her face a little red. She'd have to avoid telling Shin how she had to kiss the boy and all his friends to get it. Not that she thought he'd care. She had the strangest feeling of de-ja-vu when she'd leaned over and kissed the boy on the cheek but there was no way she'd ever have kissed someone when she was a little girl so she shrugged it off. “Now for the sun glasses.” She smiled. “This one shouldn't be so bad.” She noticed a sun glasses shop and wondered if she could get the manager to help her out. ....
Shin leaned against the tree and sighed. “What's taking her so long?” He wondered. He'd been wondering that for half the day- since she last left to go into the city. Just then a twig snapped. Shin got up and prepared himself. “Shin?” Yumi called out as she walked through the woods. “Yumi? What took you so long?” He asked as he stepped out. Yumi was smiling at him and holding up a hat and sun glasses. But he was more focused on the leaf in her hair and the smudge of dirt across her face. “Sorry it took so long.” She grinned. These should work.” She said holding up the items with pride. “How'd you manage to get those?” He asked. She blushed. “It's a secret.” She laughed nervously as she scratched the back of her head. Shin raised an eyebrow but shrugged it off. Yumi sighed. There was no way he was going to learn about that. The boys or that crazy manager. She just hoped he wouldn't stumble across the evidence hanging up in the sunny side sun glasses shack. No one needed to see the picture of her in that silly elephant costume she'd had to dance and sing in to get customers for the guy long enough to earn the sun glasses she picked out, knowing Shin would look nice in them.

He’d begun to worry about Yumi, and was happy she’d returned. He’d been practicing smiling while she was gone. It seemed he hadn’t done so in years. Not since his father died, “Well thank you miss Yumi,” he said grinning. It was awkward and unnatural. He’d practiced too much till the point where even when he really was smiling, it was stressed. Yumi blushed and put a hand to her mouth. She began chuckling and turned away as Shin put on the hat, “Hm? What is it?” he asked. She turned further away from him. Shin tried to peer into her face to see if she was really laughing, “What? Is it the hat?” ”Hehehe, no Shin, hehehehe, it’s…” she began, “What? Ms. Yumi…” “That smile!” Yumi squealed pointing at his face without looking at him. Shin raised an eyebrow, “Wha?” “Your smile was so…so…ahahahahahahaha!” she burst out laughing again. Shin looked strangely at her, “It was bad? Darn, and I’d practiced too…” he said pouting. Yumi wiped a tear from her eye and looked back to him with a huge gorgeous grin, “Silly, you shouldn’t have to practice a smile! It's great as it is,” she cheered. Shin grinned, “See!” His smile grew, “Alright alright, I see,” he said. Yumi looked at him, admiring his charm for a moment then put her hands on his hat taking it off. She tucked his hair behind his ears and tied it back into a ponytail. She had to lean in close to him to work with his hair and her soft breasts pressed against him occasionally, but he took no notice…for a minute. Shin began to blush. Yumi reached into the fold of her skirt and got a big bandana that she used when she used to work in her garden. It was a plain white one and she put it on his head letting it come out of the back once she put his hat back on. She tucked his hair behind his ears so that the bandana would hide it. Finally his ponytail was stuffed down into his cloak before Yumi then looked right into his eyes. He blushed further admiring her smile. They were a perfect white behind her full blush-pink lips. Yumi slide the shades onto his face, “There! My you look much more handsome without the goofy gear!” she giggled. Shin looked at her strangely for a moment. Almost alarmed, "Hm, what is it?" she asked, "The world's gone dim..." Shin said. There was a vivid worry in his voice. Yumi opened her mouth to explain that sunglasses tinted your vision so the sun wasn't so blinding, but she paused, "Oh? Why is that?" she asked. Shin's eyes widened with panic, "You mean you didn't notice?" "The world's just as bright as it's always been Shin," Yumi added giving him a sympathetic gaze. The panic grew. Shin snatched off the glasses and was about to say something else in his frenzy before noticing that everything returned to normal. Yumi giggled. With a roll of his eyes Shin looked at the lenses noting their tint and then at the chuckling Yumi. Had he known her better he'd have tackled her to the ground and tickled her until she wet herself. Of course knowing the situation, Shin obviously wouldn't use all of his strength on a woman so she could possibly turn the tables on him and end up on top where, of course; she'd try to tickle him back and end up with nothing but the scene of her rapidly throttling her fingers against his muscled sides eventually resulting in a heavy blush and questions of "Why aren't you ticklish?" Though, with that Shin would undoubtedly return to his dominant possition giving an even fiercer tickling until Yumi cried "Uncle!" and he helped her up out of the dirt. Funny thing was, that's exactly what happened. Yumi stood up out of the dirt panting and blushing, "You're a devil Shin..." she said grinning. The look Shin returned broke Yumi's heart. His mouth was agape slightly and his eyes shone for a second, "Ms. Yumi I...I'm sorry. I didn't think that I'd have offended you..." he said quietly, "What? What are you talking about?" Yumi asked giving him a look of sympathy and worry. Then she remembered, "Oh, bad people call you guys things like that. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way," she said smiling a again and moving a renegade strand of hair out of his face and under the hat, "I'll never think of you that way I promise! Now come on, we've got to go find shelter right?" she asked patting his chest. Shin's warm look returned, "Thank you. Um, give me a moment. I-I'll catch up. Let me answer nature's call," he said. Yumi chuckled shaking her head, "Okay, don't take too long," she chimed trotting off toward town to wait for him. Shin looked after her. Something about her reminded him of-Twack! A sharp blow hit the base of his skull and Shin's world went black as he slumped down to his knees and then flat on his face. Three Apoth stood behind him, "Disgusting. Associating with humans like that. This guy ought to be ashamed..." said one with wild hair and even wilder eyes, "Lets wait here till the b*tch gets back so we can take 'em both in," he said. The woman to his left nodded along with the man to his right. The dragged Shin's unconscious body halfway into the bushes and sat behind them waiting for Yumi's return.

Yumi had been standing at the edge of the city for far too long. She looked out in the direction Shin should be coming from for the twelfth time sine she'd arrived. Her face showed just how worried she was getting. “He should be here by now.” She told herself as she looked around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary- no one even gave her a second glance with her standing there. After a quick debate with herself as to whether she should stay and wait for him or go back, she decided she would look for him. Yumi walked quickly, making sure no one followed her as the panic inside of her began to slowly grow more and more. She slowed down when she came into the familiar part of the woods Shin had hidden in all day. “Shin?” Yumi called out as loudly as she dared to which wasn't very loud at all. She looked down at the ground, noticing what looked to be imprints of knee's. Yumi's eyes widened as she looked up. “Shin!” She called out- not bothering to hold back the worry in her voice. Shin struggled in the distance to warn Yumi of the danger but he'd woken up bound by the wrists. When the four Apoth had heard someone approach, the larger man clasped his hand over Shin's mouth while the woman and other man squatted down in the bushes, waiting for Yumi to come closer. “Keep still if you don't want to make things worse for you and your friend.” The woman hissed back at him. Shin glared at her. “Shin!” Yumi called again. The one with wild hair tightened his fists as he stared at Yumi through the bushes with pure hatred. “Oye- Kado, you should not have come so soon after your wifes murder.” The one keeping Shin quiet whispered. “No Zaboru. This is important. Now wait till she gets a little closer.” Kado whispered. Yumi turned, hearing a twig snap. “Hello?” Was she being watched? Maybe it was Shin. “Shin? Is that you?” She asked as she walked closer to a dense part of bushes and tree's. “Ouch!” A foreign voice Yumi didn't recognize called out in pain. “Yumi! Get out of here!” Shin yelled before a heavy thud sounded and Shin made a grunted when the one called Zaboru punched him in the face. Yumi's eyes widened and she quickly turned around and began running but she didn't get very far. Three quick steps and someone roughly grabbed her arm, spinning her around. She met wild eyes that stared at her with pure disgust. “Not so fast human.” The man snarled as three other Apoth emerged from the bushes. The large man pushed Shin forward on his knee's. “Shin!” Yumi tore away from the man holding her and went to Shin. His eye was bruised and swollen with a cut above the eyebrow. She lifted his face up, inspecting the wound. “I'm okay Miss. Yumi.” Shin assured, sensing her worry. “Its enough to make you sick.” The female Apoth said, rolling her eyes. “I agree Oruki.” Kado sneered, looking down at the two with repulsion. Yumi stood up and turned around, facing the three Apoth. “Please, let him go.” The woman laughed bitterly. “You've got to be kidding me?” Oruki pushed Yumi against a tree, spinning her around and binding her wrists together as she pressed her elbow into Yumi's back. When the woman was finished, she pushed Yumi. Kado caught her in his arms, glaring down at her. “Disgusting and stupid.” He hissed as he pushed her towards Zaboru. Shin stepped in between the large man and Yumi so that she fell into him instead. “Enough.” Shin insisted. “Leave her alone. She has nothing to do with this.” Kado glared at Shin. “It doesn't matter if she was or wasn't involved before. She's involved now whether she likes it or not. Now shut up and get moving. We're taking you back to the village to get your mark so we can be done with you once and for all.” “The mark?” Yumi echoed. Shin nodded. His gaze was fixed towards the ground. “The mark of Exile.” Yumi recalled earlier when the two of them had nearly ran into the two Apoth's in the woods. “I'm so sorry Miss Yumi.” Yumi shook her head, smiling. “Don't be. I'm not.” Kado rolled his eyes. “I think I'm gonna be sick. She's lying you fool. All humans are the same. They lie and they kill. She's no exception and neither was the child you threw your life away for.” He said bitterly before grabbing Yumi's hair and pulling her towards him. Kado smiled as he looked down at her with his cold wild eyes. “And if I have anything to do with it they'll all get what they deserve.” “Stop it!” Shin yelled. Kado looked up into his eyes as if sizing what Shin might do. Then he pushed her away from him. “Come on. Let's get this done and over with.” Oruki pushed Shin. “You heard him, get going.” ...
The group walked silently through the woods for hours- the prisoners walked in the center with their wrists bound. When Shin could, he put his foot in front of Yumi's, tripping her and making her fall on her knee's. “Get up!” Oruki warned. Shin knelt down next to his friend, making sure to lean in as closely to Yumi as he could. “When I give you the signal- run Miss. Yumi. Run as fast and as far as your feet will carry you.” Yumi looked up at him with surprise. “What about you?” She whispered back. “I said get up!” “Don't worry about me. I'll keep them busy as long as I can. If I can, I'll find you as soon as possible.” Shin whispered back. Kado, who'd been in front, turned and looked at them. Then looked up at Zaboru. “Get them up, will you Zaboru? The large man nodded before taking the couple steps needed to be able to reach down and pull Shin back up on his feet before doing the same to Yumi. “You okay, Miss Yumi?” Shin asked in his normal tone as he took a side glance at their captors. She nodded. “No talking you two. Now stop stalling. MOVE!” Oruki warned. Yumi looked up at Shin, looking for an answer. He gave her a reassuring smile but shook his head. Not yet. So the two fell back in between their captors and continued on. There was an odd moment of silence for what seemed like forever before Shin spun around, kicking Zaboru in the face. The large man stumbled back- dazed. He didn't have a chance to recover before Shin ran off towards the right. “Now Miss. Yumi!” Shin yelled. Yumi took a sharp inhale, praying for Shin's safety as she ran into the woods the opposite way he'd gone. “You two get Shin! I'll go after the human!” Kado ordered. Oruki and Zaboru nodded and ran after Shin while Kado did as he said and chased after Yumi. “Filthy wench! You're nothing but trouble- you humans.” He yelled as he followed after Yumi. Yumi heard the angry cries of the Apoth. She wasn't that far ahead of him and she knew that with his abilities and her own- he would easily catch up to her within a matter of minutes. Yumi's heart pounded in her chest as she ran, jumping over fallen tree's and rocks. She gripped a tree, turning sharply and spotted an uprooted tree that had fallen over at some point in time. A combination of the elements washing away the surrounding dirt and animals making a home out of it had created a perfect hiding place. She ran over to it, getting on her hands and knee's, and slid into the hole. She let out a silent cry of thanks that she could fit inside the hole if she curled her legs up under herself. Yumi grabbed a few branches and pulled them up against the opening, hoping they would camouflage her hiding space. It was all she could do. She tried to slow down her breathing in hopes that he wouldn't be able to hear her. “Where are you, woman?” Kado snarled. He was close. “Make things easier on yourself and give it up. I'll find you and when I do...” There was something strange in his voice. “Do you know what YOUR kind did to my wife?” He asked. Yumi couldn't see him to know where he was. “Human men brutally raped and murdered her not long ago.” Suddenly his feet were at the opening of hole she hid in. She felt a wave of dread, pity, and fear wash over her just before rough hands reached in and grabbed her by her hair, pulling her out of the hole. Yumi cried out and struggled against him. He grabbed her arms, hauling her up on her feet. “She was just out gathering food.” He growled in her ear as he pulled back on a chunk of her hair. “I'm sorry for your loss. That's a horrible way to die.” Yumi whimpered. “Ahh!” Kado pushed her down on the ground. Yumi scrapped her knee and elbow as she caught herself, sliding on her side. “Liar! You humans are all the same- none of you care what you do to us. The men who did that to my wife... I was never able to avenge her death.” Something in his eyes shifted. “I'll take my revenge from you.” He said, standing over her. Yumi's eyes widened as the angry Apotheoan knelt down on top of her. “No!” She yelled rolling over and clawing at the dirt. “Shin! Help!” “He won't be able to help you human. No one will. This is what you get for being what you are.” Yumi found a rock and grabbed it. She cried out as she hit him in the head as hard as she could. The man collapsed onto the ground- his head bleeding. “I'm sorry.” She whimpered as she scrambled up onto her feet. “But I couldn't let you...” Kado began to stir- moaning in pain as he struggled to sit back up. Yumi's eyes widened in fear. She quickly dropped the rock and stumbled off.

When ordered to go after shin he had no choice of refusal. Not long into the trek Ryou told his companions he would scout ahead and of course they agreed. No one really argued any of his decisions. When Ryou got far enough ahead he completely ditched them hoping to find shin before they did and before the group led by Kado. He wasnt sure what he was going to do when and if he found him. Ryou was torn. He has known Shin for years but unlike him doesnt care for humans. When Shin tried to defend the human child he was nowhere near the area of excitment. If it was any other matter Ryou would have supported him but it just had to be about a human. Since it a was child he knew the girl to be oblivious to racism but she being human he would not defend her. After all thats happened he was unsure about how the meeteing with Shin would unfold.
Days pass and still no sign. Coming into contact with a human village he roams the outskirts eavesdropping for any information. He learns of an apoth that came out out of nowhere and just as fast left with a human by the name of Yumi. After traveling in the direction the villagers talkied about as their dramatic escape he soon comes across the scent of an apoth...Shin. Ryou doubled the speed of his search because if he is just now picking up the trail the others must have too. Not that much farther he caught the scent of three more apoths. Shit. Focusing everything to his speed and hearing he sped along ready for any sound out of place in the vast forest. "Get up!", yeled a female voice and Ryou stopped instantly. As quietly as a shadow he moved along to get a closer look at the group. Ryou wathched as Zaboru yanked Shin up to stand a couple feet from who must be Yumi follwed closely by Oruki. Shin looked over at Yumi with genuine tenderness and mouthed something he couldnt make out from this distance. As they began to move again he crept along unsure of how to enter the situation and just as he was about to make a decision Shin spun to connect a kick to the face of Zaboru who stumbled back while Shin and Yumi sprinted in seperate directions. He watched as Kado cammanded Oruki and Zaboru after Shin while he dashed off after the human. Ryou didnt know what to do but something inside made a decision for him knowing Shin can take of himself he chased after Kado about to do something he never dreamed he would.
