The silky white moonlight gently caressed the ivy constricted grave stones in the ruins of the ancient Soutou Monastery. A tall figure draped with shadows knelt t the base of one of the long forgotten tombs. Among the sounds of the night were the soft murmuring of the leaves, their whisper an eerie rustling as they swept upon the frigid winter breeze. The cloaked figure remained knelt before the grave. Head bowed, as if to convey a sense of reverance. A forboding silence overcame the scene. The wind ceased to blow and not a sound could be heard and for a moment, just a solitary moment...a serene calm flooded the grave site....... The silence was sharply broken by the whispered shout of the dark figure. The chant began like a whispered song, but as it continued it accelerated. It progressed into a rapid and frantic succession of syllable-like breaths and hisses, carrying with it a sinister undertone. It continued to build, and build... the once dormant winds awoke from their ever so brief slumber and began to rage. They whipped the bare branches of the winter trees with their fury. As the chant reached its' climax the figure uttered one final "HISSSS!", and then it returned to the previous silence of the winter night. The figure arose slowly and began to walk away but it only managed a few steps and paused...The voice of a man brimming with mourning and sorrows uttered, "Forgive me for the sins that I will commit, In your name..."

The figure cloaked in the night walked calmly through the damp hallways of the ruins. Each footstep echoed endlessly throughout the long abandoned chambers. The shadow crept from each room to each room, running it's hands over each doorway, each inscription, gently caressing it as if it might invoke a distant memory. Every step was taken with cautious familiarity, purposefull but unsure, as if the figure had not returned to the site for many years. The figure continued until he had reached what appeared to be a bedding chamber... "I will rest here for the remainder of the night, and at dawn I will return to my journey."
